What is Bharatha's mother's initial reaction to the news of Rama becoming king? How does the nurse change her attitude towards Rama? What should Dasaratha do in this situation (what is his dharmic duty)?

  1. Her initial reaction is happiness and excitement. On page 40 it says, "Wonderful! Wonderful! Here is your reward for the good news your bear...She took off her necklace and threw it on Kooni's lap." She was thrilled with the fact that Rama was being crowned.

The nurse changes her attitude towards Rama my making her want to exile Rama for 14 years and not be crowned king. On page 42 Kooni said, "you will no longer be queen, but an ex-queen...you will be reduced to the status of a housemaid...". This angered Bharatha's mother...and changed her mind to want to crown Bharatha instead.

I think that Dasaratha should still crown Rama as he had announced to everyone that he would. He promised that he would and I believe that it is his Dharmic duty to crown Rama.
