Cite at least two examples (with pg. numbers) in the first two chapters of
Ramayana where you see evidence of the divine being IMMANENT, and discuss how they fit this criteria. Make also, at least three instances of appearances being ILLUSORY and what these might mean.
Immanent is defined as "taking place within the mind." One example of the divine being immanent is on page 4. "At this Vasishtha recollected an incident that he had witnessed through his inner vision. At one time the gods went in a body to appeal to the Supreme God Vishnu for his help." This fits the criteria because it states "his inner vision," or in his mind. The gods asked the God for help in Vasistha's mind.
ReplyDeleteAnother example is on page 19. "He prayed intensely for ten thousand years to Brahma, the creator, who advised him..." Believing in a God is within your mind since they do not physically exist in front of you, so praying to them is immanent.
The last example is on page 27. 'How do you know it was not a divine inspiration that gave you thoughts?"-Viswamirtha. Inspiration is defined as "the process of being mentally stimulated." So Viswamirtha was asking how do you know that is wasn't the gods that put that thought into your head basically.
Illusory.
ReplyDeletePage 26. "who is he? Where is he gone?...or am I subject to a hallucination?..." Sita was referring to Rama. She thought he was real and seemed real but it could have been a Hallucination as well which could have made Rama not real.
Page 17. "Ganga cleanses and transforms... now you find the river serene and beautiful..Ganga had to be transformed..." The river appearance seemed beautiful and seems like a river but was an untamed goddess before she touched earth.
Page 21. "Indra assumed the form of a cat." He had been misbehaving so he turned himself into a cat. He made a false appearance.
